New Tools for Resident Recruiting Season: A CERA Survey of Family Medicine Residency Program Directors

Background and Objectives: As the family medicine community continues to adapt interview season changes secondary effects of COVID-19 pandemic, discussions are underway regarding new options improve overall success satisfaction resident recruiting. Tools such as preference signaling, capping, supplementary applications that have been investigated, in some cases implemented, by other specialties for their recruiting seasons. Family a specialty is now actively scrutinizing benefits drawbacks these tools. Conclusions: Because survey results indicated high level support using innovative tools during recruitment season, should take action implement programs/policies. Results: Two-thirds 262 program director respondents (42% response rate, n=184) supported policies signaling national cap; however, was mixed use supplemental applications.
